  • A Senate committee and the Department of Justice are also looking at the incident.
  • The probe is being led by Rep. Dustin Burrows, R-Lubbock.

On Thursday, a special Texas House of Representatives committee began investigating the Robb Elementary School massacre, while concerns regarding the police reaction to the tragedy remained unanswered.

The probe is being directed by Lubbock Republican Rep. Dustin Burrows, El Paso Democrat Rep. Joe Moody, and former Texas Supreme Court Judge Eva Guzman.

On Thursday morning, the committee heard brief opening statements before entering the executive session to begin interrogating witnesses behind closed doors.

Steven McCraw of the Texas Department of Public Safety has criticized the Uvalde school police chief for making the “poor judgment” not to approach the gunman immediately.

In the days and weeks following the shooting, law enforcement provided conflicting information about the response, including whether a school resource officer was on the scene, whether a door that the shooter entered was closed, how quickly police confronted the shooter, and whether the suspect was wearing body armor.

A Texas Senate committee, as well as the Department of Justice, are looking at the response to the incident.
