Zendaya doesn’t believe she has what it takes to be a pop star

  • Zendaya says she doesn’t know if she’ll ever be a pop star.
  • Being an actress gives her “a certain sense of anonymity,” which she enjoys.
  • She’s worked as a pop artist before, first as part of Kidz Bop and then as a teen.

Zendaya has stated that being in Hollywood still provides her with “a sense of anonymity”; which she believes would be lost if she pursued music as a vocation.
“I was talking to Sam [Levinson] about this earlier,” she told Andrew Garfield about the Actors’ concern. I was thinking to myself, “I don’t know whether I’ll ever be a pop star.” It’s because I get to have a certain sense of anonymity as an actor, which I enjoy. And I get to sort my problems, whatever it is, via a character, with no one knowing.”
“It’s all you all the time” when it comes to music, she said.

The actress said, ” “It’s all you all the time in other forms and mediums; while it’s all you all the time in other forms and mediums. I appreciate the concept of having someone else, in this case Rue [from Euphoria], handle that stuff so I can (have) boundaries. I’m figuring out what’s best for me.”

The 25-year-old actress has worked as a pop artist previously, first as part of Kidz Bop in 2009; with versions like Katy Perry’s ‘Hot n Cold,’ and then as a teen in ‘Shake It Up,’ where she released songs like ‘Something to Dance For’ and ‘Fashion Is My Kryptonite.’

In 2013, she released the successful single ‘Replay,’ followed by her self-titled debut album later that year, and in 2016; she collaborated with Chris Brown on ‘Something New.’

While she has songs on the soundtracks for films like ‘The Greatest Showman,’ ‘Euphoria,’ and ‘Smallfoot’; she appears to be happy concentrating on acting.
