European Parliament will recommend that the EU Heads of State or Government, who will convene on June 23-24, 2022, award Ukraine EU candidate status and deliver weaponry in response to the Ukrainian authorities’ indicated demands.
Following the Russian invasion of Ukraine, Chair of the European Parliament’s Committee on Foreign Affairs, David McAllister, made the following statement at a plenary session of the European Parliament on the EU’s Foreign, Security, and Defense Policy. McAllister outlined eight European Parliament recommendations for the EU summit participants. They have anything to do with the situation in Ukraine.
“We recommend that Ukraine be provided, without delay, with weapons in line with the needs expressed by the Ukrainian authorities and be granted EU candidate status as a clear political sign of solidarity with the people of Ukraine,” McAllister said.

The European Parliament also suggested that EU sanctions and their implementation be closely monitored.
The world, according to McAllister, is undergoing a phase of geopolitical redefinition. According to McAllister, the challenges posed by Russia’s assault against Ukraine go well beyond the awful scenario that we are currently witnessing and pose a threat to Europe as a whole.
Russia’s aggression against Ukraine has shown that the EU needs to be given the means and tools it needs to respond appropriately to global strategic rivalry and complicated security issues right away.
