FIR filed against BJP spokesperson for blasphemy as 15 Muslim nations unite, including UAE

According to The Hindu, a first information report (FIR) has been filed against BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma for making insulting and vile remarks about Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).

Maharashtra Police have summoned her to appear before investigative investigators on June 22 to give a statement about her alleged offensive remarks.

Sharma has been notified via email and mail, according to an official. An FIR has also been filed against her by the Pydonie police in Mumbai.

Mumbai police had filed a FIR against the politician on May 28 under Indian Penal Code Sections 295A (deliberate and malicious acts intended to outrage religious feelings), 153A (promoting enmity between groups), and 505(2) (statements conducive to public mischief) for her disrespectful comments during a TV debate.

Many protests erupted in India as a result of the remarks.

Following the incident, 15 Muslim countries banded together to protest Indian lawmakers’ disparaging remarks about the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), according to NDTV.

Iraq, Iran, Kuwait, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Jordan, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Bahrain, Maldives, Libya, Turkey, Indonesia, and presently the United Arab Emirates, which is a strong ally of India.

Nupur Sharma, the BJP’s spokesperson, and Naveen Kumar Jindal, the party’s media chief, both disrespected Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). The incident aroused outrage in the Muslim world, and diplomatic relations were harmed as a result.

The BJP suspended both of its members as a result of the uproar.

The UAE’s foreign ministry recently slammed the BJP’s remarks, calling them “disgusting.” “According to Al Jazeera, “contrary to moral and humanitarian ideals and standards.”

Qatar demanded a public apology, while Iran summoned India’s envoy to express its displeasure.

“It’s high time to raise a united voice against the forces of prejudice,” Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, a member of the Communist Party of India, stated.
Amir Ali, a political science professor at New Delhi’s Jawaharlal Nehru University, told Al Jazeera: “The fact that the BJP no longer has a single Muslim member of Parliament reflects the poor status of Muslims in India. “Not a single one.”
