Five militants from the violent Islamic State (IS) group were killed in a confrontation in a rural area near Baghdad, an Iraqi government news agency announced on Tuesday.

As per the Iraqi News Agency, a paramilitary Hashd Shaabi unit engaged with IS militants late Monday in the Tarmiyah area, around 30 kilometres north of Baghdad, after spotting them. All five of them were killed.
Iraqi security forces have been conducting operations against extremist militants in recent months in order to combat their increased activity.

Since 2017, Iraq’s security situation has gotten better. IS remnants, on the other hand, have disappeared into metropolitan centres, deserts, and harsh areas, launching guerilla strikes against security personnel and civilians on a regular basis.
