BEIJING: The National Meteorological Center of China renewed a yellow alert for rainstorms across the country on Monday.

Heavy rains are anticipated to lash sections of Hunan, Jiangxi, Guangxi, Guangdong, Fujian, Taiwan, Yunnan, and Liaoning from 2 p.m. Monday to 2 p.m. Tuesday, with some regions receiving up to 180 millimetres of rain.

Over 80 millimetres of hourly precipitation is expected in some of the above regions, along with thunderstorms and gales.

Local governments have been encouraged by the centre to make proper preparations, execute traffic control measures in road sections affected by severe rain, and guide traffic in water-logged areas.

It also recommends turning off harmful outdoor power sources in low-lying areas, relocating people to safer areas, and inspecting city, agriculture, and fishpond drainage systems.

China has a four-tiered color-coded weather warning system, with red denoting the most severe alert and orange, yellow, and blue denoting the least severe warning.
