Ukraine slams French President Emmanuel Macron for suggesting that it is critical for Russia not to be humiliated in its fight in order to keep the door open for good diplomatic relations between the West and Moscow once the conflict is resolved.

Macron’s remarks enraged Kyiv, which condemned the French president’s stance. Dmytro Kuleba, Ukraine’s foreign minister, stated flatly that the remarks “can only disgrace France.”

Macron has spoken with Putin on a regular basis since the invasion in an attempt to reach a ceasefire and initiate a genuine negotiation between Kyiv and Moscow, but he has had no tangible success.

On Friday, Russia’s invasion of Ukraine reached 100 days, with little indication of an end in sight amid fierce fighting in the eastern city of Severodonetsk.

When asked about the mediation offer, Mykhailo Podolyak, a Ukrainian presidential adviser, said there was “no purpose in holding conversations” with Russia unless Ukraine acquired new weapons from the West and forced Russian forces back “as far as possible to Ukraine’s borders.”

The US will provide Ukraine with precision HIMARS rocket systems, allowing it to hit Russian targets from a greater distance.

France has also provided offensive weapons, such as Caesar artillery cannons from its army’s stockpile. Macron stated that he has requested that arms makers speed up manufacturing.

Moscow has stated that the Western weaponry will “add fuel to the fire,” but that it will continue with its “special military operation” to disarm Ukraine and rid it of nationalists.

Putin said Russia was readily coping and was already destroying American-supplied weaponry in comments concerning the US decision to deliver fresh arms to Ukraine, state-run news agency RIA reported on Saturday.
