The UN’s Food and Agriculture Organization’s (FAO) food price index, fell for the second month in a row. It reached a new high in March, according to the UN agency.

Despite the drop, the May index showed prices were 22.8 percent higher than a year ago. One of the world’s biggest breadbaskets were boosted.

According to Luca Russo, the FAO’s senior analyst for food crises, the cost of providing help has grown as a result of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. It directly raises energy prices. He cautioned that the poor world is particularly vulnerable to a serious food catastrophe.
