A magnitude 5.6 earthquake struck 142 kilometres west of Naha, Japan on Friday at 07:03:35, according to the United States Geological Services.
The epicentre was reported at 26.0993 degrees north latitude and 126.4125 degrees east longitude.

In March 2022, a magnitude 5.6 earthquake struck Iwate Prefecture in northeastern Japan, but no tsunami warning was issued by any authority.
The Korean Meteorological Administration and local authorities have not reported any major material damage, a News channel reported.
According to the Japan Meteorological Agency, the quake struck at around 11:25 p.m back in March 2022.

Authorities said the quake struck 18 kilometres above sea level off the north coast of the prefecture. Later, the magnitude of the quake was revised to 5.5 from the initial forecast, Kyodo News reported.
A magnitude 7.4 earthquake shook northeastern Japan in March 2022 again, killing at least three people and injuring more than 180 civilians.
It resulted in significant power outages, transportation difficulties, and industry closures. According to a News channel, it’s unclear if the two tremors are related.
