Stuart Broad, James Anderson return to England Playing XI against Kiwis

England have called back experienced pacers James Anderson and Stuart Broad for the first Test against New Zealand at Lord’s on Thursday, while Durham quick Matthew Potts makes his debut.

Anderson and Broad, England’s two most successful bowlers of all time with a combined 1,177 wickets, were both controversially excluded from the squad for the previous series loss in the West Indies.

Potts’ opportunity comes after an injury crisis robbed England’s many fast bowlers, including Mark Wood, Chris Woakes, Ollie Robinson, and Jofra Archer.

This will be England’s first Test under their skipper, Ben Stokes, and coach, Brendon McCullum.

England, who announced their squad a day ahead of schedule on Wednesday, will lock horns with defending Test champions New Zealand in a three-match series.

The Kiwis are currently at number six while England is at the bottom of the World Test Championship table.
