As Russia’s invasion of Ukraine proceeds, US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin delivered a short address; commemorating the “power of democratic citizens and military to fight tyranny, cruelty, and injustice” in Ukraine.
Austin gave the brief remarks at Arlington National Cemetery on Monday to introduce President Joe Biden.”Today, the world witnesses the power of democratic citizens and troops to reject tyranny, cruelty; and oppression on the battlefields of Ukraine. “Their independence, as well as the international order based on the principles that we have constructed at such great sacrifice since World War II,” Austin added.
Austin stated that the US recognises “the challenge” that the threat in Ukraine poses. He said, “We’re determined to meet it.”
“As the President says, democracies are rising to the occasion in the war between democracy and despotism. “We get strength from the men and women of the United States military, and we gain inspiration from the solidarity of our allies and partners,” Austin added.
