Several people were arrested in Paris by the police during the Champions League final match between Real Madrid and Liverpool.
The Reds said that fans with genuine tickets were not allowed to enter the stadium amid security issues. But, the UEFA and the French authorities said that these people were carrying fake tickets.
The interior minister stated that around 68 people were arrested in a state of chaos. Among them, counting to 39 were taken under arrest and could face charges.
European football governing body UEFA said that the fake tickets were the reason for the delay in the game. The game was delayed by 35 minutes.
However, Liverpool stated that it was a huge disappointment for them that their supporters were charged for an unacceptable breakdown of a security perimeter.
While the French interior minister Gerald Darmanin said, “Thousands of British ‘supporters’ either without tickets or with fake ones forced their way through and sometimes behaved violently towards the stewards”
French newspaper Le Monde commented: “The party that was supposed to precede the final… was spoilt and turned into real chaos.”
“From party to fiasco,” said France’s leading sports daily L’Equipe.
In contrast to the scenes outside the stadium, Paris police reported that the activities at two large fans zones, which hosted thousands of supporters from both teams, went off without a hitch.
40,000 Liverpool fans who had not purchased a match ticket flocked to their zone in eastern Paris to soak up the atmosphere. Despite their defeat, they were able to leave the region without incident.
The Paris fire department, which deals with all types of emergency situations, said the night had been mostly peaceful, but it had treated some supporters for tear gas and excessive alcohol consumption.
