Tom Cruise is praised by Jennifer Connelly! On Monday, the Top Gun: Maverick actor, 51, spoke with PEOPLE at a New York City screening of her new action flick, where she was joined by co-star Jay Ellis.

Connelly, on the other hand, called the recent Cannes Film Festival, where Maverick premiered and many cast members were in attendance, a “epic” and “such a great” occasion, and said it was a “honour” to be a part of it.

Connelly describes it as “a magnificent tribute to Tom and his career.”  “The reel at the beginning of the film, it was so impressive and so moving and he’s really an extraordinary actor, so that was really beautiful, and was beautiful to see the acknowledgement, and watch him see it.”

A crowd eager to see Tom Cruise for the first time in three decades greeted him with whoops and hollers when he arrived at the Cannes Film Festival. The guy who plays the titular Maverick flashed his beautiful whites as he met fans. Jennifer, on the other hand, looked lovely in a silver long gown with sequins and intricate beading.

Meanwhile, during the epidemic, Paramount Pictures delayed the release of Top Gun: Maverick by two years, a decision that appears to be paying off with positive reviews and box-office forecasts that Top Gun: Maverick will easily be Cruise’s largest opening weekend. Tom, who is famed for performing his own stunts, is said to have trained to withstand g-forces and even flew in real fighter planes for the sequel.
