Katie Price to not appear before court in speeding charge

Katie Price will not be sentenced to prison for speeding since her case is being handled through the single justice procedure.

The former glamour model is not required to appear in court and might face a fine, points on her license, and a driving suspension. Under the procedure, she cannot be imprisoned.

In September of last year, the 44-year-old reality actress was allegedly caught speeding in a 60mph zone near her property in Horsham, West Sussex.

Her case has been scheduled for hearing in Crawley Magistrates Court, although it will be handled remotely through the little-known Single Justice Procedure.

To deal with a case, a single magistrate does not need to be present at the court where it is scheduled.

The procedure was established in 2015 to address minor traffic violations and fare evasion.

Defendants can enter a plea online, but they must appear in court at a later date if they plead not guilty.

“The Single Justice Procedure applies to instances involving adults charged with summary-only non-imprisonable offences,” according to the government website.

“It allows matters to be decided only on the basis of the papers, without either party having to appear in court for a hearing.”
