Owners of the Pixel 6 are dissatisfied with Google’s pricey, yellow cases

Google’s $30 first-party cases aren’t impressing Pixel 6 and 6 Pro owners. Hundreds of consumers have complained about the translucent plastic fading, warping, or just not fitting the phone out of the box, according to Reddit and Amazon reviews.

Some individuals have shared gruesome photos of their cases, claiming that they degenerated in anything from months to only two or three weeks. Their casing has also starting to appear  “a bit dingy.”

While there are many excellent evaluations for the cases, the amount of complaints is difficult to ignore. It also doesn’t appear to be the result of a poor batch of instances. There’s a January Reddit discussion discussing the problem, as well as one with very identical concerns from only a few hours ago.

Some reviews also say that the covers begin to alter form around the buttons or the bottom, which makes me concerned about the case’s capacity to protect my phone.

Anyone who has purchased a $10 transparent phone cover has certainly experienced quick discoloration. Translucent plastics are, for the most part, a reality of life. Even many of the bad reviews confess that they expected the discoloration to occur at some time; they simply didn’t expect it to happen in a matter of weeks or months, or to appear quite so disgusting when it did. Since the early 2010s, I don’t believe I’ve seen it this awful.

This isn’t just off-the-shelf case; it’s one sold and branded by the same firm that creates the phones. There’s also the fact that this is a problem Google has already handled. A handful of my coworkers, as well as a few Reddit commentators, remembered the company’s cloth covers for phones like the Pixel 4A and Pixel 5. (though there were also a fair amount of complaints). Obviously, things didn’t yellow as much, and if they did become dirty, you could quickly clean them.

Thankfully, third-party Pixel covers are plenty these days, but it’s a shame that purchasing the official one is such a gamble. At the very least, these complaints began to surface before the Pixel 6A was announced; if Google provides comparable covers for its less expensive phone, it’s better to avoid them until the company confirms that the problem has been resolved.
