Kurt Zouma Footballer charged with three offences after animal abuse video

Kurt Zouma has been charged with three animal cruelty offences after a video of him reportedly kicking and slapping his cat went viral.

The West Ham defender will appear in court with his brother Yoan Zouma on Tuesday for a preliminary hearing.

Yoan is accused of filming the encounter on February 6 and faces two counts of assisting, abetting, counselling, or procuring Kurt Zouma to commit an offence.

Kurt Zouma is accused of causing needless suffering to a protected animal on two counts.

The 27-year-old France international is also accused of failing to take reasonable precautions to prevent the animal from suffering, injury, or disease.

Zouma’s two cats are still being looked after by the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (RSPCA).

Following the event, West Ham punished their player £250,000 and donated to nine animal welfare groups in the UK and internationally.

Following the video, Kurt Zouma’s adidas sponsorship contract was cancelled, and Yoan was suspended by Dagenham in February.
