Warriors moves to finals as Curry, Wiggins tear Mavs

The Golden State Warriors advanced to the NBA Finals with a 109-100 victory over the Dallas Mavericks on Sunday, led by Stephen Curry and Andrew Wiggins.

Steve Kerr’s Warriors have a commanding 3-0 lead in the best-of-seven Western Conference finals series after a clinical performance on the road in Dallas.

In the NBA’s 75-year existence, no club has ever come back from a 3-0 series disadvantage in the playoffs.

Curry had 31 points, 11 assists, and five rebounds to lead the Warriors in scoring, while Wiggins had 27 points and 11 rebounds.

Klay Thompson scored 19 points, while Draymond Green and Jordan Poole both contributed 10 points.

With 40 points, Luka Doncic once again put on a show for Dallas, but the Slovenian star will need to conjure something even more remarkable to keep the Warriors from advancing to the NBA finals against either Boston or Miami.

“That was just a great team win,” Curry said afterward.

“When you’re up 2-0 and you win on the road, it gives you a stranglehold and control of the series. That’s huge.

“We obviously know that the job’s not done, but it’s a good feeling to know that we can play with house money on Tuesday (in-game four) and try and get the job done.”

The Warriors regained control of the game in the third quarter after gaining a 48-47 halftime lead.

Curry scored 11 points in the third quarter as the Warriors outscored Dallas 30-21 to take a 78-68 lead into the fourth.

That cushion was sufficient, as the Warriors maintained their cool in the fourth quarter to put the Mavs at bay.

With a tremendous one-handed dunk over Doncic midway through the fourth quarter, Wiggins provided a highlight-reel moment.

The bucket was initially called out due to an offensive foul, but Warriors coach Kerr successfully appealed the ruling, giving the Warriors a 93-83 lead.

With just over four minutes remaining, Wiggins capitalized on Doncic’s aggressive challenge by claiming three free throws and putting Golden State up 102-89.

Golden State had an anxious moment when Spencer Dinwiddie hit a three-pointer with just over a minute left to make it a five-point tie at 104-99.

The Warriors’ comeback was brutal, with Poole hitting a game-winning three-pointer with 54 seconds left to restore Golden State’s eight-point lead and ultimately ice the game.

The series continues on Tuesday with Game 4 in Dallas.
