The policy was earlier stated as “final and non-negotiable” by the Ministry of Information and Culture.

On Sunday, Afghanistan’s Taliban rulers began enforcing an edict ordering; all female TV news anchors to hide their faces while on screen. The move is part of a hardline change that has been criticised by human rights activists.
Only a few news organisations followed the directive when it was issued on Thursday. However, after the Taliban’s Vice and Virtue Ministry began enforcing the rule on Sunday, most female anchors were seen with their faces covered.
The policy was earlier declared “final and non-negotiable” by the Ministry of Information and Culture. “It’s just an outside culture imposing itself on us, forcing us to wear a mask, which can cause issues for us while presenting our shows,” Sonia Niazi, a TOLOnews TV anchor, explained.
