Alison King, who is best known for her role as Carla Connor on the cobbles, and David, an IT expert, were planning to marry in May 2020 before the coronavirus outbreak ruined their Greek wedding plans.

The 49-year-old and David had been dating since March 2018 and were engaged in 2019 before postponing their wedding a year later.

A source told The Sun : “Alison and David have sadly decided to separate. They were very much in love for a long time but have ended up growing apart.

“It’s obviously very sad for them both, but they knew they couldn’t continue on together. Both knew that it wasn’t right.

“They parted amicably and both wish each other the best in the future.”

She previously told OK! magazine in 2019 about their engagement and how she had “an inkling” that David would propose.

On the eve of their one-year anniversary, while on a sunset cruise, David got down on one knee.

Alison told the magazine: “I had an inkling he was going to pop the ­question because he kept putting something on my finger and going, ‘right, close your eyes and forget this ever happened’.

“We’d also discussed marriage, too. I think we both went from ‘no, we don’t ever need to get married’ to ‘oh, we really want to get married!'”

Alison and her Corrie co-star Mikey North were accused of kissing during the 2020 National Television Awards, sparking controversy just before lockdown.

The tape appears to show the duo sitting close, Alison putting her head on Mikey’s shoulders, then pressing their faces together, with the member of the public filming the soap stars exclaiming in surprise.

“He just snogged her. He kissed her” The stunned onlooker says.

Both stars, though, issued forceful statements in response to the rumours.
