Kylian Mbappe has agreed to stay with Paris Saint-Germain in principle.
The 23-year-old 2018 World Cup winner had been linked with a move to Real Madrid but has decided to stay with the French champs.
PSG has offered Mbappe a lucrative new three-year deal.
The contract has still to be signed, but PSG is expected to make an announcement around their season finale against Metz on Saturday evening.
PSG were willing to offer him a £150 million signing-on fee to keep him for another two seasons, according to Spanish football analyst Guillem Balague, who wrote about it last month.
Mbappe had agreed to a financial agreement with Real Madrid months ago, but he has decided not to join Carlo Ancelotti’s side.
In August 2017, he joined PSG on a season-long loan from Monaco and has since helped them win four Ligue 1 titles in five seasons.
The Qatari-owned club was keen to keep him and was willing to pay him a £21 million net annual wage.
Mbappe scored in each leg of PSG’s Champions League last-16 match against Real Madrid this season, but it wasn’t enough to keep PSG from losing 3-2 on aggregate.
With 25 goals and 17 assists in 34 games, he is the leading scorer in Ligue 1 as PSG won the league with four games to spare.
Mauricio Pochettino, the manager of Paris Saint-Germain, revealed on Friday that he had no idea where Mbappe would play next season.
“I hope Kylian will be around for a long time, but I can’t promise anything. I have no idea what will happen,” stated the former Tottenham Hotspur manager.
“There are a lot of rumors floating around, but the player will have to speak about it.”
