Oklahoma Governor Kevin Stitt, a Republican, replied to President Biden’s harsh criticism of the Sooner State’s new abortion ban.
Stitt claimed that the White House was criticizing the bill “to deflect” from Biden’s “failed administration.”
“From the beginning, President Biden and his leftist administration have tried to impose and compel conduct on everyone who disagrees with their socialist goal.
“Oklahomans don’t give a damn what the socialist Democrats in Washington believe, and as governor of all 4 million pro-life Oklahomans, I will continue to battle to defend the unborn.”
“Rather than releasing the stockpile of baby formula at the border, or helping families who are being crushed by 40-year high inflation and record gas prices, or securing our southern border, or dealing with the surge of violent crime across the country,” Stitt said, “the Biden administration would rather pander to their radical base and target states like Oklahoma.”
“President Biden’s popularity rating is at an all-time low, so they’re anxious to divert attention away from his failing government.”
Stitt’s remarks come a day after the White House slammed the new Oklahoma measure, calling it “absurd,” “extreme,” and “ultra MAGA,” the administration’s new buzzword.
According to White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre, “the president thinks that women have the basic right to make their own reproductive health decisions.” She went on to say that the Roe v. Wade judgment “has been the rule of the nation for over 50 years, and fundamental justice and the stability of our law necessitate that it not be reversed.”
The press secretary said, “Today’s move by the Oklahoma legislature is the most aggressive effort to undermine these fundamental liberties we have seen to date.” “It also embraces Texas’ ridiculous idea to allow private persons to sue their neighbors for providing reproductive health care and assisting women in exercising their constitutional rights.”
“Our is part of a rising movement around the country by hyper MAGA politicians to pull back the liberties we should not take for granted in this society.”
“Trump-style Republicans are starting with reproductive rights,” Jean-Pierre said, “but the American people need to realize that other fundamental rights, such as the right to contraception and marriage equality, are in jeopardy.”
As Jean-Pierre pointed out, H.B. 4327 allows private persons to file lawsuits against people who perform or assist in abortions, with damages starting at $10,000 per abortion.
On April 12, 2022, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma Gov. Kevin Stitt speaks after signing a measure making abortion a crime punishable by up to ten years in jail.
H.B. 4327 would outlaw all abortions after conception, with the exception of rape, incest, or to save the mother’s life. The measure prohibits any technique that “causes the death of an unborn child,” defined as a “human fetus or embryo in any stage of gestation from conception to birth.”
