In Sang e Mah, Sania Saeed discusses Pashtun Stereotyping.

Pakistani plays, like Pakistani audiences, are changing. People pay attention to diverse storylines, subtleties, and situations on television and discuss things that they believe are politically wrong.

Stereotyping of different communities, such as Pashtuns carrying firearms and Punjabis being noisy, is a common occurrence. The on-air drama Sang e Mah, starring Sania Saeed, has also been chastised for misrepresenting Pashtuns.

Mere Humnasheen, a Geo drama starring Hiba Bukhari and Ahsan Khan, has been accused of the same thing, with thick Pashto accents that don’t seem natural or authentic.

During an interview with Something Haute, Sania Saeed discussed stereotypes and the public’s reaction. She stated that stereotyping characters and creating caricatures of them is a problem all throughout the world, but that when it comes to Sang e Mah, they have done the exact opposite.

Zarguna, for example, is depicted as a strong lady, but Haji Marjan, the chief, is never portrayed as doing anything aggressive. She went on to say that Pakistan is full of stories that need to be shown on television. This time it came from KPK, but it might come from somewhere else next time.
