A shooting injured four people at a Louisiana high school

Four people were shot at a high school graduation in Louisiana on Thursday night, police said.

The graduation ceremony was held at Southern Louisiana State University in Hammond, Louisiana.

The incident occurred at 8 p.m. local time as Hammond High School students and their families were leaving the SLSU University Center.

According to Hammond police, no students were engaged in the shooting. All four people injured were non-life threatening, according to Hammond Police Chief Edwin Bergeron.

One suspect has been apprehended, according to police.

Two Louisiana legislators responded to the shooting on Twitter. “Praying for the shooting victims and everyone affected by the violence outside Hammond High School’s graduation this evening,” Republican Senator John F. Kennedy wrote.

Senator Bill Cassidy, a Republican, said he was keeping an eye on things and praying for the victims:

“A night to celebrate the achievements of young men and women was disrupted by senseless violence. Monitoring the situation as more details become available and praying for the well-being of those injured.”
