Cleric, witness in Dua Zehra’s nikkah remanded to police

Dua Zehra

KARACHI: Dua Zehra’s case took another shocking turn as the cleric who was arrested yesterday (Thursday) claimed that he did not solemnize the teenager’s nikkah with Zaheer Ahmed.

A judicial Magistrate heard the case of Karachi’s missing girl Dua Zehra who was later traced in Lahore, married to a person identified as Zaheer.

As per the recent development, the cleric Hafiz Ghulam Mustafa along with one witness of the ceremony were arrested from Lahore.

The police produced both the arrested persons in front of the judicial magistrate today who handed over them to the police on a five-day remand.

The solemnizer claimed that he was not present at the occasion and his name was used in the act.

The court also sought a progress report from the investigating officer for the next hearing.

It is pertinent to mention here that the Sindh High Court (SHC) headed by Justice Muhammad Iqbal Kalhoro heard Dua’s father’s petition seeking the recovery of the teenage girl and ordered the police to produce Dua in the next hearing.

Earlier, on Sunday, the girl shared a video message claiming that the investigating officials and the police has been disturbing her private life as she has been happily living with her husband and inlaws.

The girl went on missing in April from her hometown Karachi and was recovered many days later from Lahore but nikkahfied with Zaheer.

The twist surfaced in the case when Dua’s family claimed that the teenager was only 14 years old and pleaded with the court to void the marriage.
