LHC to hear petition challenging Punjab CM election

LHC

The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Friday declared a petition challenging the recent controversial election of Punjab Chief Ministership eligible for hearing.

The CJ will hear the case on the petition filed by PTI’ Sibtain Khan and five other leaders. The petition said that the PTI and PML-Q workers were not allowed to become the part of electoral process on the behest of Hamza Shehbaz.

The petitioner plead that Hamza Shehbaz’s election was unconstitutional, hence should be declared null and void.

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz leader Hamza Shehbaz assumed charged as Punjab Chief Minister after Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf and Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid boycotted the electoral process alleging it rigged as their legislators changed loyalties. However, in a turn of event, the Supreme Court issued the verdict that the dissident members of a parliamentary party cannot cast votes against their party’s directives.

The court, issuing its verdict on the presidential reference seeking the interpretation of Article 63(A) of the constitution, said that the article concerned cannot be interpreted alone. The Supreme Court wrapped up the hearing of reference filed by President Arif Alvi. The reference was filed in the apex court in March after the Opposition parties submitted a no-trust motion against the then prime minister Imran Khan.

The case will be heard tomorrow (Saturday).
