Pakistan more interested in trade than getting aid from US, says Bilawal

NEW YORK: Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari on Thursday said that Pakistan is more interested to trade with the United States of America rather than getting aid from them.

Speaking exclusively to Bol News, the foreign minister said that Islamabad desires to increase trade with Washington DC, adding that he had a positive dialogue with Secretary of State Antony Blinken on Pakistan’s economy.

“Secretary Blinken have a positive approach towards the Pak-US trade relations,” he said. “We want the US business community to invest in Pakistan and vice versa. We want further access to the US markets.”
Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari is participating in the “Global Food Security” meeting that started on May 18.

The invitation for the conference was given by Blinkenin in his maiden telephone call to the newly appointed FM, the Foreign Office said. During the telephonic conversation, Secretary Blinken congratulated his Pakistani counterpart on the assumption of his office and expressed the desire to continue strengthening the mutually beneficial Pakistan-US bilateral relationship.

Bilawal’s US visit is be the first high-level interaction between the two countries amid the PTI’s anti-American narrative. Former prime minister Imran Khan has blamed Washington for toppling his government. The US has denied the allegations.
