Tom Cruise explains why he continues to perform his own stunts in movies

Tom Cruise explains why he continues to execute his own stunts in movies despite the danger. Cruise rose to prominence in the 1980s thanks to films like Risky Business, Top Gun, and Rain Man, but he has since been synonymous with large blockbuster action films and stunt work, owing mostly to the Mission: Impossible series.

Mission: Impossible – Fallout, the most current instalment in the franchise, took Cruise’s Ethan Hunt to new heights – literally – with hundreds of HALO (high altitude, low opening) leaps from a huge cargo plane for one of the film’s iconic set-pieces. The sequel to Mission: Impossible – Fallout, now titled Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part I, has already been confirmed to have even more death-defying stunts, including one particularly breathtaking scene in which Cruise drives a motorcycle over a cliff.

The action-packed planned sequel to Cruise’s 1986 hit retains Cruise’s devotion to real-world stunts, with real fighter jets used for many of the film’s aerial scenes.

Cruise, on the other hand, sat down for a “MasterClass Conversation” ahead of the Cannes Film Festival presentation of Top Gun: Maverick, explaining why he is so dedicated to performing his own stunts. The actor’s response, obtained by The Hollywood Reporter, is short and confident, with Cruise implying that performing his own stunts is just part of his personality. Tom said,”No one asked Gene Kelly, ‘Why do you dance? Why do you do your own dancing?'”
