Ms. Wahetra revealed to La Premiere what the New Caledonian pro-independence alliance will expect from the French National Assembly.
“The ability for New Caledonia to have full sovereignty. The maintenance of New Caledonia on the list of decolonized territories, and status among the republic of France.”
New Caledonia elects two representatives for the National Assembly.
The anti-independence parties have chosen their candidates: Caledonia Together Party head Philippe Dunoyer and Generations NC leader Nicolas Metzdorf.
Dunoyer and Philippe Gomes, a previous New Caledonian president who opted not to run for re-election, held the two seats.
Dunoyer stated that they favour French President Emmanuel Macron and wish to form a local copy of his party.
Since 1986, no pro-independence representative has served in the French National Assembly.
