Imran Khan moves to Supreme Court against restoration of NA

Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan on Thursday filed a review petition in the Supreme Court (SC) against the verdict that repealed the ruling of National Assembly (NA) deputy speaker on the vote of no-confidence, ensuing the dissolution of the lower house.

Following the deputy speaker’s ruling, the then prime minister Imran Khan had dissolved the NA. But, the top court had taken suo moto notice of this and restored the NA. It also ordered to conduct voting on no-confidence motion against Imran Khan in the given stipulated time which resulted in his ouster from the office.

In the review petition, the former premier Imran Khan cited Article 248 of the constitution under which no other institution can interfere in the affairs of the parliament.

He maintained that the deputy speaker’s ruling was in accordance with Article 5 when he rejected the vote of no-confidence against the prime minister. The petition said that the advice for the dissolution of the NA was sent after the deputy speaker’s ruling.

He added that the court didn’t address the record which resulted in the advice for the dissolution of the NA.
