Beijing and covid crisis

Beijing and covid crisis

According to local officials, between 3 p.m. Friday and 3 p.m. Saturday, Beijing recorded 78 locally transmitted verified COVID-19 cases.

From April 22 through 3 p.m. Saturday, a total of 688 COVID-19 instances involving 15 districts had been recorded in Beijing.

According to Pang Xinghuo, deputy head of the Beijing municipal disease prevention and control centre, the capital currently has 20 high-risk zones and 34 medium-risk areas.
Pang went on to say that epidemiological research and gene sequencing indicate that there are two distinct transmission chains in Beijing.

“There are still hidden sources of infection, and the spread of illnesses has not been totally stopped,” she stated.

Pang stated that Beijing’s current epidemic prevention and control work is in a critical period, with sporadic cases still being reported in communities, and that it is critical to manage all COVID-19 risk areas as well as people in these locations in order to cut community transmissions as soon as possible.
