Dua Zehra’s father pleads SHC for her recovery

KARACHI: Father of Karachi’s teenage girl Dua Zehra pleaded with Sindh High Court (SHC) for his daughter’s recovery.

Mehdi Ali Kazmi requested the court to declare Dua’s nikkahnama (marriage certificate) void maintaining that the girl is underage.

He also pleaded that the girl should be recovered and handed back to the family.

“She is underage and cannot be legally married under Child Marriage Restraint Act 2013,” he added.

Earlier, in a press conference, Mehdi Kazmi claimed that Dua’s age was 14 years as per NADRA record.

The father also showed documents in support of his claims, while the teenager insisted in a video message that her age is 18 years.

It is pertinent to mention here that Dua Zehra went missing in April later to be found married to Zaheer Ahmed in Lahore.

The girl’s family approached the police hours after her disappearance and the case gained prominence through social media.

Dua Zehra was recovered days later from Lahore, safe and Nikahfied. However, the parents claimed that her marriage with Zaheer is illegal as the girl is not 18 years old yet.

Later, in a video message, the teenager requested her parents not to interfere in her personal life and claimed that she left her house willingly to get married to Zaheer.
