Kabul: Uzbekistan’s envoy stated that the country is not ready to recognize the Taliban authority in Afghanistan.

In an interview with Voice of America (VOA), Ismatulla Irgashev, the Uzbek president’s special representative for Afghanistan, said it would be difficult for Kabul’s new government to get international recognition anytime soon, according to Tolo News.

“We will not recognize them alone,” he said. “When it happens, we want a collective voice and stand.”

While supporting deeper contact with the Taliban, Irgashev stated that Tashkent is dedicated to formal recognition only in collaboration with the international community, according to Tolo News.

The Center for European-Asian Studies and the Diplomatic Academy of the Russian Federation’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs met in Kyrgyzstan to discuss Afghanistan.

While highlighting the importance of forming an inclusive administration in Afghanistan, envoys from Russia, Kyrgyzstan, and Uzbekistan stated terrorist operations in Afghanistan pose a threat to the region.

“The rapid withdrawal of foreign troops from Afghanistan and the rise of the Taliban has increased the threats against Russia and Central Asian countries because it has been over eight months that the Taliban government has not fulfilled any of its commitments to the international community. “The Taliban have been a part of the Afghan people since the takeover and must respect religious freedom and equality, and it is clear that this freedom has grown equally in Uzbekistan and other countries over the past 30 years,” the Uzbekistan envoy said.

Most foreign nations list three requirements for recognizing the Taliban administration in Afghanistan: the development of an “inclusive” government, the preservation of women’s rights, and efforts to assure that Afghan land does not become a safe haven for international terrorists.
