Isaiah Lee, the man suspected of climbing on stage and attacking comedian Dave Chappelle during a performance at the Hollywood Bowl on Tuesday night, will not face felony charges, according to the Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office.
However, in a press release and video message released to Twitter on Thursday afternoon, Los Angeles City Attorney Mike Feuer charged Lee with four crimes, including violence and possession of a firearm.
“After evaluating the evidence, prosecutors found that while criminal behavior occurred, the evidence as provided did not constitute felony conduct,” DA spokesperson Greg Risling told a foreign news publication.
Lee is still in police custody, according to L.A. County jail records.
According to a statement from Public Relations Director Sophie Jefferies, the Los Angeles Philharmonic Association, which owns the Hollywood Bowl, is adding “new security measures” and assessing existing processes.
“We’re assessing our existing protocols both internally and with outside experts so that we can continue to deliver a safe and secure environment at the Hollywood Bowl,” Jefferies said.
“We have boosted the number of security staff on site to assist with bag checks and other security processes,” says the statement.
She stated that the venue is continuing to assist with authorities in their inquiry.
