After admitting to watching pornography on his phone in the House of Commons chamber, a British MP from the ruling Conservative Party has resigned.

Neil Parish, a member of Parliament since 2010, announced his decision on Saturday, citing pressure from within his own party to defuse sleaze claims ahead of the May 5 local elections in the United Kingdom.

The election is viewed as crucial for Conservative Prime Minister Boris Johnson, who is already facing voter anger after allowing lockdown-breaking parties into government buildings during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Neil Parish, 65, resigned following a “moment of lunacy,” as he put it. Parish, the chairman of the House Environment, Food, and Rural Affairs Committee, said he was looking for a tractor website but ended up on a porn site with the same name, which he viewed for “a bit.”

“My biggest crime is that I went in a second time on another occasion”; “And that was on purpose.”

Reports that a member was watching porn while sitting on the House of Commons’ historic green benches sparked a barrage of accusations from women in Parliament about misogyny and sexual harassment they’ve seen while doing their jobs.
