Progress of world incomplete, without development of workers: Shehbaz on Labour Day

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Sunday said without the development of the workers, the real progress of the world was incomplete.

In his message on the International Labour Day, he paid tribute to the labourers of Chicago whose sacrifices have become a global movement for labourers’ rights.

He said the development of the world was the result of the hard work of the workers. The efforts of the International Labour Organisation for the health and safety of labourers were commendable and highly appropriate, he maintained.

The prime minister said the labourers and workers which included educated, illiterate, skilled and unskilled played a pivotal role in the development of any country and society.

He said as soon as he took the charge, government raised the minimum wage to 25,000 rupees and would improve the working conditions of the workers in accordance with Islamic teachings, the constitution of Pakistan and international standards.

Shehbaz Sharif said Pakistan was committed to solving the problems of workers and labourers at all levels.

Meanwhile, President Dr Arif Alvi also paid tribute to the working men and women who had made tremendous sacrifices and contributions to the socio-economic development of Pakistan.

In his message on this occasion, he said the day symbolised the strength, character, talent and dedication of Pakistani workforce towards making the country a prosperous and progressive nation in the world.

He said Pakistan reiterated its commitment to provide an enabling environment and a higher standard of living for all workers and their families.

The president said Pakistan needed to focus on the skill development of its workforce so as to fully reap the dividends of emerging economic opportunities in the wake of increased regional integration.
