Carjackers target workmen mending flood-hit roads in South Africa

South Africa

Officials of South Africa are said to have recovered a car taken from transport ministry personnel as they were repairing a road damaged by recent floods.

According to local media, the hijackers held them at gunpoint near Durban in the KwaZulu-Natal area before driving away in the white pick-up truck.

The event occurred on Wednesday, a Freedom Day of South Africa, and a local official described it as terrible that the workers had given up their holiday to serve the community only to be attacked by crooks.

The carjacking investigation has begun.

According to the IOL news website, the vehicle was later discovered abandoned and inoperable and was hauled away.
