‘Entry only. No exit:’ as Shanghai’s wrath Beijing expects more COVID closures

On Friday, authorities in China’s capital Beijing locked additional companies and residential compounds in an effort to stem a COVID-19 epidemic, as dissatisfaction of Shanghai’s month-long lockdown rose.

According to a Reuters witness and residents, fenced-in people in the finance hub have been protesting the lockdown and difficulty acquiring necessities by banging on pots and pans in the nights.

A woman was seen advising people not to do so via a loud-hailer in a video published on social media, whose authenticity could not be immediately verified, suggesting such gestures were being encouraged by “outsiders.”

A request for response from the Shanghai authorities was not immediately returned.

Authorities in Beijing were racing against the clock to detect COVID cases and isolate those who have been around them.
