Jurgen Klopp has disclosed the key role his wife Ulla Klopp played in convincing him to extend his spell as Liverpool manager.

Klopp signed a new deal at Anfield on Thursday, pushing his expiration date from June 2024 to June 2026.

Klopp made the announcement via a video on LFC’s Twitter account.

Explaining his decision he said, “Why? Because Ulla wants to stay.

“As a good husband, what are you doing when your wife wants to stay? You stay!

“That’s not the only reason, but it’s one of the reasons.

“You know that I love our club and it’s the best place to be. I feel really, really lucky.”

Klopp has been the manager of Liverpool since October 2015, making him the longest-serving current manager in the Premier League.

He and Ulla, on the other hand, have been together for much longer.

In 2005, Klopp met his wife during Oktoberfest, and the two married later that year.

Ulla is said to have impacted Klopp’s choice to reject the manager’s post at Manchester United before to his appointment as Liverpool manager.

“I interviewed Klopp for Sky, and I questioned if he and Liverpool were designed for each other,” former Liverpool player and coach Phil Thompson told ITV2 in 2019. He looked at me and inquired as to why.

“Then Klopp told me he could have taken over Manchester United, but his wife said it wasn’t right.

“When Liverpool arrived, his wife said it was right. There is something strange there. It is as if he’s created for Liverpool.”
