The Queen was in good spirits when she met with the president of Switzerland in person at Windsor Castle, marking her first official engagement since a week-long respite at the Sandringham estate.
The 96-year-old monarch, who is celebrating her Platinum Jubilee this year, greeted Ignazio Cassis and his wife Paolo with a bright smile before posing for photographs in her Oak sitting room.
It comes after her second son, Prince Andrew, was stripped of his Freedom of York by city councillors on Wednesday; amid renewed calls for him to be stripped of his dukedom. The Queen, on the other hand, appeared to be in better spirits for Thursday’s engagement. After returning to her Berkshire castle a day earlier after celebrating her birthday at the Duke of Edinburgh’s Wood Farm residence.
