Abu Jayed, Bangladesh’s out-of-favor pace bowler, is in hot water after a Bangladesh Cricket Board official indicated on Tuesday that he will be summoned for a hearing over his exclusion from the two-match home Test series against Sri Lanka.
On Monday (April 25), Jayed informed an international news website that he believed his omission from the squad had nothing to do with his performance.
The selection panel and team management were caught off guard by the right-arm fast bowler’s outburst.
Jalal Yunus, the chairman of the BCB cricket operation, has instructed the selection panel to investigate the situation. The panel agreed to hold a hearing with the bowler.
On Tuesday, BCB chief selector Minhajul Abedin informed the website that they would call him (Jayed) for a hearing after Eid.
“It was really disheartening to see him speak in this manner after being left out of the Test squad against Sri Lanka,” he stated, adding that they would decide what to do following the hearing.
Jayed did not take a wicket in his last three Tests against Sri Lanka and Pakistan, and although being a member of the touring party in New Zealand and South Africa, he did not make it to the playing XI.
