Civil court orders release of PTI MNAs held in Sindh House case

A civil court on Thursday ordered release of PTI MNAs on post-arrest bails who were apprehended in the Sindh House attack case.

Both MNAs were arrested on Tuesday after the cancellation of their interim bails by the Islamabad High Court (IHC).

The Judicial Magistrate Muhammad Inamullah presided over the post-arrest bail pleas of PTI lawmakers. The court ordered to release MNAs Faheem Khan and Attaullah Niazi and party official Roy Tanveer Khan on bail bonds worth Rs50,000 each and a local guarantor.

The Investigation officer (IO) presented the case record before the court, but the suspects were not produced. Syed Muhammad Ali Bukhari and Waseem Bahadur represented the suspects.

The suspects’ counsels maintained that the boundaries of the Sindh House were not trespassed by the PTI lawmakers as they did not get through the main gate.

He also maintained that the police allowed his clients to go ahead, ruling out ‘unlawful assembly’.

The lawyer pleaded with the court to grant post-arrest bails to the suspects under the ‘rule of consistency’.

After hearing the arguments, the magistrate ordered release of the PTI officials.

The PTI lawmakers and workers had attacked the Sindh House in Islamabad on March 18 after videos of the party dissenters had emerged. The dissenters had taken ‘refuge’ in the building after they had publicly announced to not vote for then prime minister Imran Khan on the no-confidence motion.

In reaction to this, PTI workers, including MNAs Ataullah Niazi and Faheem Khan, staged a protest outside the Sindh House which turned violent.
