In a new episode of ITV’s famous show DNA Journey, Christopher Dean shared some painful details from his upbringing.
The Dancing On Ice star, who co-stars with his former skating partner Jayne Torvill on the program, opened up about his mother, Mavis, leaving his family home when he was six years old. Christopher found out shortly after that his father, Colin, had been having an affair.
The Olympic gold medalists will fly to Nottingham to visit Christopher’s childhood home, where he recalls watching his mother leave.
He stated to his long-term sports partner, “I hadn’t been told she was going, but I simply remember her going,”
Adding, “And then an hour or so later, another car turned up, and then my stepmom, Betty, arrived.”
Christopher’s comments on the show aren’t the first time he’s spoken openly about his upbringing. The 63-year-old told MailOnline in 2014 about the “painful” period when his family was split, “Losing my mum and being an only child definitely went some way to making me who I am today.”
Since then, Christopher and his mother have developed a close relationship, and she has frequently visited the set of Dancing On Ice to see her son and Jayne in action as judges.
In another part of the show, the skater learns that he has relatives on his mother’s side who live in Utah, USA, whom he had never met before.
Christopher, on the other hand, has been married twice and is the father of two children. Between 1991 to 1993, he was married to Isabelle Duchesnay, a French-Canadian World ice dance champion.
Following the couple’s divorce, he married Jill Trenary, an American skater with whom he had two kids, Jack Robert, 23, and Sam Colin, 21. However, their marriage did not endure, and Christopher has been dating DOI head coach Karen Barber since 2011.
