Health experts throughout the world are looking into a recent and concerning increase in instances of hepatitis in youngsters, but they still don’t have an answer.

A variety of ideas are being investigated, including the potential that lockdown and social alienation are to blame for the cluster of incidents.

Dr. Tassos Grammatikopoulos is one of the country’s finest paediatric liver specialists, and this year has witnessed an increase in patients at Kings College Hospital, where he works.

“The most recent lockdown and pandemic have definitely had a role in this since children have not been exposed to common pathogens to common diseases, as they would have been had we all been out and about wandering in the community,” he added.

“So I believe that is a factor in this. But there are a number of other issues that we’re looking at very carefully with other agencies throughout the country to figure out what’s going on.”

Without sufficient proof for any other causation, there is a clear link to investigate: a global lockdown followed by an increase in hepatitis infections in young children.
