The University of Georgia will break its own NFL Draft record for the third year in a row. Georgia might have as many as 14 players taken in the 2022 NFL Draft, after sending seven players to the league in 2020 and eight in 2021.
So, as the first round approaches on Thursday night, we projected our final 2022 Mock Draft, complete with all Dawgs.
Round 1
No. 1 Jacksonville Jaguars – DE, Travon Walker
There’s a popular belief in the league that if Aidan Hutchinson were actually the first overall choice, we’d already know it. Which implies that, as of Monday, Georgia’s Travon Walker may still be the first overall pick. He presently has a +140 chance of being the first overall pick.
No. 13 Houston Texans – DT, Jordan Davis
With the Chargers sitting at No. 17 overall, it’s evident that Houston will have to be proactive if they want an impact defender in the interior of their defence. Most people in the league don’t expect Jordan to go beyond the Chargers, according to insiders, and that known factor might force a team like Houston to take Davis.
No. 18 Philadelphia Eagles – DT, Devonte Wyatt
For two straight seasons, Wyatt had first-round footage, but it took a senior bowl performance to truly establish Wyatt’s status as the finest 3-technique defensive lineman in this class. On Thursday, he’ll be a first-round must-have for any team he joins.
No. 28 Green Bay Packers – WR, George Pickens
Following the trade of Devante Adams, the Packers have already invited Pickens for a pre-draft visit, and they are in desperate need of wide receiver help. Rodgers has a few more years in Green Bay under his belt, and he’ll need wide receiver help soon.
No. 32 Detroit Lions – LB, Nakobe Dean
Dean’s status has dropped during the draught process, but he was the best player on a defence that hasn’t been seen in nearly two decades of college football. He’s a first-round talent who should be drafted as such.
Round 2
No. 40 Seattle Seahawks – LB, Quay Walker
Quay Walker is rumoured to be sneaking into the first round, and even if he doesn’t, it doesn’t appear that he will have to wait long on day two of the draught in Las Vegas.
No. 42 Indianapolis Colts – S, Lewis Cine
Cine was projected to go in the late second or early third round until he ran a sub-4.4 forty at the NFL Combine. His draught stock soared to the point that he could be a first-round pick. There’s a lot of footage to look at, and NFL teams have a lot of attributes to work with.
Round 3
No. 68 Houston Texans – LB, Channing Tindall
Linebackers like Channing Tindall are highly sought after in the NFL. A 6’2 linebacker who can play three downs and, if necessary, can fill in on special teams early in his career if he doesn’t crack the starting lineup, which is very similar to his Georgia career path.
No. 71 New York Jets – RB, James Cook
Cook will be the first Georgia back off the board in this draught because of his ability to catch the ball out of the backfield. He’ll be pursued by a number of teams looking for a third-down back.
No. 85 New England Patriots – OL, Jamaree Salyer
An offensive lineman who started for two full seasons at tackle and won a national championship while playing five positions in the SEC? Bill Belicheck is drooling over a big fella with that kind of heritage.
Round 4
- No. 114 Atlanta Falcons – RB, Zamir White
- No. 129 Dallas Cowboys – CB, Derrion Kendrick
- No. 156 Minnesota Vikings – OL, Justin Shaffer
- No. 175 – Los Angeles Rams – TE, John Fitzpatrick
