Fans of Selling Sunset rushed to social media to dispute a scene involving Jason Oppenheim in the show’s new fifth season’s seventh episode.
The 45-year-old real estate broker is seen speaking on the phone as the front of his iPhone is set to the camera app in a clip from the Netflix reality series It’s Getting Personal, prompting some to wonder if the call was false.
While it is theoretically conceivable to have the camera app open while making a call, many on social media questioned the call’s validity, claiming that the founder of The Oppenheim Group was discussing a potential property deal.
A user shared a clip of the scene, writing, ‘Not Jason Oppenheim getting up to make a call with his camera.’
One user tweeted, ‘My vibe today is Jason talking to his camera pretending to call a client #SellingSunset.’
Another user said: ‘Jason Oppenheim “on a phone call” during a scene in the new season of Selling Sunset. From what I see though … his camera app is open.’

A few social media users defended the Palo Alto, California native, with one person saying, ‘You guys are aware you can still be on a call but on a different page, app…’ while another said, ‘Sometimes the ear or face touches the screen and turns on other apps.’
The show’s fifth season, which premiered on Netflix on Friday, will follow Oppenheim’s relationship with Chrishell Stause, 40, which terminated late last year after only five months.
Oppenheim last week spoke with People about seeing his relationship with Stause unfold on the fifth season of his series, saying he was ‘pretty anxious about it,’ and ‘not looking forward to that at all.’
He added: ‘It’s almost like if you got a divorce and had to watch your wedding video. Why would you want to do that? This has not been an easy breakup for me at all – my most difficult for sure – and I’m still processing. So to have to go through this when I’m already having a difficult time is not something I’m looking forward to.
Stause, an actress and real estate agent, opened up about their breakup in December, as she said they were not on the same page in terms of starting a family.
‘I have tried to embrace the world I have found myself in and that includes being open and honest about my relationships,’ Stause said in a December 21 post on Instagram. ‘It felt scary and terrifying knowing that it may not end in what society deems a success and what I am ultimately looking for.
‘But after many long heartfelt talks, I am choosing to see it as a success no matter what label is attached to it publicly. Jason was and is my best friend, and other than our ideas for family ultimately not being aligned, the amount of respect and love we have for each other will not change going forward.’
