Due to a finger injury, Bangladesh all-rounder Mehidy Hasan Miraz will miss the first Test against Sri Lanka.
The 24-year-old sustained the injury while playing in present Dhaka Premier League for Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club.
Miraz injured his finger while attempting to catch Tamim Iqbal during his team’s play against Prime Bank Cricketers Club at the BKSP on Sunday.
One of the members of selection panel, Habibul Bashar, explained the situation surrounding the Khulna-born all-rounder.
Bashar was quoted as saying, “He (Mehidy) is definitely ruled out of the first Test due to a hairline injury, and he is also doubtful for the second Test.”
Sri Lanka will arrive in Bangladesh on Sunday, May 8 and will play a two-day practice match at the MA Aziz Stadium in Chattogram beginning on Wednesday, May 11.
The opening Test of two-match Test is expected to get started on Sunday, May 15 at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram.
The second and final Test will begin on Monday, May 23 at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium.
Both matches are part of the World Test Championship’s 2021-2023 cycle (WTC). With 12 points, Bangladesh is ranked ninth in the points table.
The team, captained by Mominul Haque Showrabh, made history earlier this year when they defeated New Zealand at Mount Maunganui’s Bay Oval.
