Former President Donald Trump is being held in civil contempt by a judge for failing to comply with document subpoenas issued by the New York attorney general

A New York judge is holding Donald Trump in civil contempt after the state’s attorney general’s office said he did not cooperate with a request for information as part of its probe into the former President’s firm.

Judge Arthur Engoron stated that Trump disobeyed his order to comply with the subpoena and that his counsel failed to demonstrate how a search of Trump’s documents was done. Engoron said Trump will be penalised $10,000 a day until he complies.
“Mr. Trump, I understand you take your business seriously, just as I do. I’m declaring you in civil contempt and fining you $10,000 every day until you clean up your act “At a hearing on Monday, Engoron stated. Fines are set to begin on Tuesday, according to a written ruling. Trump’s lawyer, Alina Habba, informed reporters that Trump intends to appeal the ruling.
Habba stated, “We respectfully disagree with the court’s ruling today.” “As I said, all records relevant to the demand had already been sent to the attorney general months ago.”
The office of New York Attorney General Letitia James has been investigating the Trump Organization for more than two years, and has previously stated that as part of its investigation, her office discovered multiple misleading or fraudulent misstatements and omissions in the Trump Organization’s financial statements, which were provided to lenders and insurers, among others.
