BCB CEO: Mustafizur would have to play Test cricket, if necessary

Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president Nazmul Hasan stated that Mustafizur Rahman will be required to play Test cricket if the team requires him.

Mustafizur recently stated that he is not ready to return to Test cricket and that he needs to pick and choose formats in order to extend his career.

After a foreign news channel reported that the BCB top-brass was ready to speak with him regarding his future in Test cricket, the left-arm bowler cleared his position.

Mustafizur also stated that he will meet with BCB President Nazmul to inform him of his position, however he emphasized that Nazmul was aware of all happenings.

“First and foremost, let me explain: we have provided the players a format (contract paper) to indicate the format they wish to play.”

“We have listed those who have declared they desire to play three formats, Test, or two forms (in the national contract accordingly).”

“Mustafizur did not write his name for Test and did not express an interest in playing Test,” Nazmul told reporters at a city hotel on Saturday.

“It doesn’t matter whether he says (yes) or not because if we need him, he’ll have to play” (Tests). We can certainly call him up for the Sri Lanka series if necessary.”

“Look, there’s Taskin, Shoriful, and Ebadat, and these three cricketers are there for Tests, so if I keep Mustafizur there, we’ll never know if the management or coaching staff would play him.”

“However, if he is called upon (for a Test), he will undoubtedly have to play. It’s not a problem,” he stated.

Mustafizur has appeared in just 14 of Bangladesh’s 39 Tests since his Test debut in 2015.

The left-arm fast bowler was left out of seven Tests because BCB refused to include him in the Test contract list, despite his protests.

Bangladesh was without him for the one-off match against Zimbabwe, as well as the two-match Test series against Pakistan, New Zealand, and South Africa.

Meanwhile, Nazmul has stated that he will meet with the Test squad to determine whether they are experiencing any psychological difficulties.

“We used to think we had a problem with fast bowlers, but now we see that spinners are causing us problems.”

“Today I planned to sit with the Test team, but they were late, so we’ll find out what’s going on in a day or two,” Nazmul remarked. “If there’s a psychological problem, we’ll have to deal with it.”
