According to the music director, Justin Timberlake and Britney Spears broke up via a text message.

Chris Applebaum took to Instagram to share a vintage shot with Britney Spears from their Overprotected duet.

He began, “This was filmed on the second shoot day for her ‘Overprotected’ video.”

“We had one team clock out after 12 hours and a fresh crew clock in on a (scheduled) 24-hour shoot day.”

“Brit went missing during the second shift, and I rushed to her trailer to find her…only to find out that her BF Justin had just broken up with her through text message.”

“Let me advice to everybody who reads this: don’t break up by SMS!” Chris concludes.

“We sat for a minute on the floor of her trailer, talked it out, and then rallied,” he added.
“I told her she needed to come out there and show Justin he’d made the worst mistake of his life,” he said. That was only one of the many tales told throughout the filming…”

Fans were eager to show their support for Chris by commenting on his post.

“WOOOOW. She deserved a lot more!” one was written

“She is so strong, she deserves so much love,” said another.

“You were correct; Justin made a tremendous error.” But, thank God, she’s better off without him,” a third opined.

“How horrible to break up with her over a text message,” one person remarked.

From 1999 until 2002, Britney and Justin were together for four years.
