A senior US defence official told reporters on Thursday that Russia continues to increase its forces within Ukraine as it refocuses on the east. Adding three more battalion tactical groups since yesterday. Bringing the total number of Russian battalion tactical groups, or BTGs, in Ukraine to 85.
The total number of BTGs added in the last week is now 20.
The majority of the BTGs being deployed in Ukraine are “destined for the Donbas region,” according to the official.
“Most of them we still assess are headed to the Donbas region,” the source continued, cautioning. “But we don’t know, we don’t know precisely what unit is there on any given day, but that’s where we’re evaluating that we’re going.”
